Get TomTom Services in Two Ways

Most of the latest TomTom products come with a variety of services so you always drive with the most up-to-date travel information. Currently, TomTom Services include TomTom Traffic, Speed Camera Updates and MyDrive. All TomTom Services need your device to be connected to the Internet to receive the latest information.

Depending on which device you choose, you can connect to TomTom Services in one of two ways:

Lifetime TomTom Traffic - Always Connected / Lifetime TomTom Traffic -  SIM & Data Included

Your TomTom navigation device can independently connect to the Internet to activate and receive TomTom Services.

What is Always Connected or Sim & Data Included?

Always Connected and SIM & Data Included devices have built-in connectivity - they use an integrated SIM card to connect to the Internet and receive services.

Travelling abroad? With TomTom Services coverage in many countries across Europe, Always Connected and SIM & Data Included devices can be used when driving abroad without incurring any roaming charges.

How do you get TomTom Services on an Always Connected or SIM & Data Included device?

To use TomTom Services, they need to be activated on your device first. There are two ways to do this:

Option 1: Activate on device startup.

Option 2: Activate via the TomTom Services button in the menu.

Smartphone Connected

Travelling conditions change all the time. Because we want our community to have the best driving experience, we want you to always have the most up-to-date information. That's why all TomTom Services require your TomTom navigation device to be connected to the Internet. Currently, TomTom Services include: TomTom Traffic, Speed Camera Updates and MyDrive.

Our Smartphone Connected devices use Bluetooth to connect to and share your smartphone's 3G/4G network connectivity. We've ensured that TomTom Services use very little data to have the minimum possible impact on your monthly data allowance.

How much data will TomTom Services use?

On average, if you drive for one hour per day during peak traffic times, you will use approximately 7 MB of data per month. This is less than the equivalent of downloading or streaming 2 music tracks per month (which use around 5MB each).

Note: If you plan to travel abroad and want to use TomTom Services, be aware that you can incur additional data-roaming charges because you will be using the Internet abroad. You can check your data roaming plan and costs by contacting your mobile operator. Find out more

Is my smartphone compatible?

TomTom has developed and tested the Smartphone Connected functionality with iPhone and Android phones. Recently, Internet Sharing also became possible on Windows phones. Compatibility depends on your phone and software version.

Follow the simple steps below to check whether your phone is compatible:

  1. Go to Settings on your smartphone.
  2. Make sure you have the menu options highlighted in the images below.
  3. Android phone
    iPhone
    Windows phone

  4. Check that your phone has a valid data connection by opening a web browser and checking that a page loads.

If all the above steps work, then your smartphone is compatible with a Smartphone Connected device.

If you are missing any of the highlighted options from Step 2, please make sure you update your phone to the latest software version available. If the options are not visible even with the latest software, please contact your mobile phone operator or the company that provided your phone to understand why these options are not available to you.

If your smartphone is not compatible but you still want to benefit from TomTom Services, please consider purchasing a SIM & Data Included TomTom navigation device.

How do I activate TomTom Services on a Smartphone Connected TomTom navigation device?

Please follow the simple steps below to connect your phone to your TomTom navigation device and activate TomTom Services.

  1. Prepare your phone to connect.
  2. Please select which type of phone you're using below to see the steps:

    Android
    iPhone
    Windows
    1. Go to Settings, you need to activate both Bluetooth and Mobile Hotspot.
    2. Turn on Mobile Hotspot and Bluetooth Tethering.
    3. Go to the Bluetooth menu and make sure the tick box is checked and then leave this screen open.
    1. Go to Settings, you need to activate both Bluetooth and Personal Hotspot.
    2. Turn on Personal Hotspot.
    3. Go to the Bluetooth menu and make sure the tick box is checked and then leave this screen open.
    1. Go to Settings, you need to activate both Bluetooth and Internet Sharing.
    2. Turn on Internet Sharing, make sure you select "Share over: Bluetooth".
    3. Go to the Bluetooth menu and make sure the tick box is checked and then leave this screen open.
  3. Turn on your TomTom navigation device to start the services activation flow. You have two options for accessing it:
