How do I play the sound over my car stereo?

Click here to see which products/categories this applies to.

For TomTom GO x30 / x20

  • You can use the built-in FM transmitter to transmit music from your TomTom GO to your car stereo. Your car stereo receives the sound as an FM radio signal, just like it does from a radio station. You cannot listen to another radio station at the same time.
For setting up the FM transmitter see Sounds and voices in the User Guide: www.tomtom.com/downloads.

  • You can use the audio cable which is available as an accessory. Your car stereo needs to have a 3.5mm audio in connector. Your GO can then play spoken instructions and music over the car radio. Phone calls are played using the speaker in your GO.

For TomTom GO 510/710/910

  • You can use the FM Transmitter Mount* to transmit music from your TomTom GO to your car stereo. Your car stereo receives the sound as an FM radio signal, just like it does from a radio station. You cannot listen to another radio station at the same time.
For setting up the FM transmitter see the FM Transmitter Quick Start Guide: www.tomtom.com/downloads.

  • You can use the audio cable which is part of the GO 910 and available as accessory for the GO 510 and GO 710. Your car stereo needs to have a 3.5mm audio in connector. Your GO can then play spoken instructions and music over the car radio. Phone calls are played using the speaker in your GO.

For TomTom GO and TomTom GO 300/500/700

  • You can use the Permanent Docking Kit (PDK)* to play sound (such as spoken instructions or phone calls**) through your car stereo and to power your TomTom without using the Car Charger (cigarette lighter adapter). It also allows the TomTom to automatically switch to night view when the lights of the vehicle are turned on. The PDK needs to be professionally installed behind the dashboard of your vehicle.
    * This accessory is no longer available.
    * * Hands-Free calling is not supported by TomTom GO and GO 300.

For TomTom ONE 1st Edition

  • You can use the audio cable which is available as accessory for the GO 510 and GO 710 to play the spoken instructions over your car stereo. Plug the audio cable into the headphone socket on the bottom of your TomTom ONE and into a 3.5mm audio in connector on your car stereo. Not all car stereos have the correct connector.
