A File Access Error occurs when saving items on my device. What should I do?

You may get a File Access Error when trying one of the following:

  • Creating a new Favourite
  • Creating a new POI
  • Changing your home location
This error is shown in the top-right corner of your device (red box with yellow text).


To solve this, do the following:

  1. Back up your device using Back up and restore > Back up my device in TomTom HOME.

  2. Clear the flash memory

    Click one of the download buttons below and follow the instructions to run the TomTom Clear Flash tool.
    Note: This does not erase any data from your device.


The File Access Error should be resolved.
