Updating the software on your navigation device

We recommend always having the latest version of the TomTom software installed on your navigation device. This ensures you can use the latest features and improvements available for your device.

How you update the software depends on the program you use to update your device. Find the correct instructions by selecting one of the options below.

  • MyDrive Connect
  • TomTom HOME
  • What program does my device use?

Before you start

  1. Make sure that your computer is compatible with MyDrive Connect.
  2. Make sure that you are using the latest version of MyDrive Connect. more

How to update the software on your device using MyDrive Connect

  1. Connect your navigation device to your computer. Switch on your device.
  2. If MyDrive Connect doesn't open automatically, click the MyDrive Connect icon (Imageor Image) in the Windows notification area or Apple menu bar and then click MyDrive Connect.

  3. If you are not already logged in, enter your email address and click Log in. You can select "Remember my email address" so you don't have to enter it next time.
  4. Click Update selected. MyDrive Connect will display what's new with this update, you must click Accept and Install to continue.

    Note: If no software update is available, the software on your navigation device is up-to-date. You can disconnect your navigation device from the computer and skip the remaining steps.

  5. MyDrive Connect downloads and installs the software on your device.

    During the download and installation, MyDrive Connect shows the progress of the two operations: download to the computer and then installation on the navigation device.

    Important: Do not disconnect your navigation device. Your navigation device will display a message to say when it is safe to disconnect it.

    Once the installation is complete, you will see the message YOU'RE READY TO GO! in MyDrive Connect. Click the My Content button to return to the MY CONTENT page.

  6. When you see the message on your navigation device that the installation has completed, disconnect your navigation device from your computer.

You can now use your navigation device with the installed software update.

Make sure that you keep your navigation device connected to your computer.

Disconnect and reconnect your device to continue the updates.

How to update the software on your device using TomTom HOME

TomTom HOME helps you to ensure you always have the latest TomTom application installed. To check if a new application version is available, connect your navigation device to your computer. Then click Update my device in HOME.

Before you start:
Make sure you have a backup of your device. For more information see Backing up my navigation device.


To check for an updated application version do the following:

  1. Connect your TomTom device to your computer and switch it on.
    Wait for TomTom HOME to start.

  2. If HOME does not automatically check for updates, click Update my device in the HOME menu.


    Note: if you would like to install an application you downloaded previously, click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras etc. > Items on my computer.

  3. If a new application is available, it is listed on the next screen.


    Make sure the new application is selected, then click Download updates.

    HOME downloads the selected items...


    HOME then installs the selected items on your device.


  4. Click Done.

  5. Click Device > Disconnect Device in the HOME menu. You can then disconnect your device from your computer.
