Which memory card can I use to install maps?

If your navigation device has a memory card slot, you may need to buy a memory card to store your maps.

Recommended memory cards

We have tested the following capacities for cards from the major manufacturers:

  • MicroSDHC (Micro Secure Digital High Capacity): 4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB
  • SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity): up to 4GB
  • SD (Secure Digital): up to 2GB
  • SD (Secure Digital) Carminat TomTom: up to 4GB

Formatting

Devices connecting to MyTomTom:
The first time you insert a new memory card in your navigation device, you are asked if you want the device to format the memory card.

Devices connecting to TomTom HOME:
When you buy a new memory card, you don't need to format the card before installing your maps. New memory cards are formatted to FAT 32, which is the correct format for use with navigation devices.

*   The size of available internal memory depends on the size of the map on your navigation device.
  • MyTomTom: To check the size of available internal memory in MyTomTom, click Manage Content on the MyTomTom menu.
  • TomTom HOME: To check the size of available internal memory in TomTom HOME, click Manage my device and then click Items on device.
**   Mazda Navigation System NB1: We recommend that you only use original Mazda SD cards from your car dealer. They are optimised for reliability and performance when used with your navigation device. If you do use a different type of SD card you should perform frequent updates.

Tip: The performance of your navigation device depends on the following factors:

  • Make sure you have the latest TomTom device software version installed on your device.
  • Selecting fewer Points of Interest (POI) may improve the performance.
  • Using a memory card with a faster read speed may improve the performance.
