Changing map on navigation device with computer (TomTom HOME)

This FAQ contains information that may not be applicable to your device. More information.

If there is not enough memory on your device, the original map is either saved to the your computer (for devices using TomTom HOME) or stored online (for devices using MyDrive Connect), while the new map is installed on your device. When you want to use the original map again, follow the applicable Return to original map procedure to exchange the maps again.

Install your new map

  1. Click Manage my device in the main menu in HOME.
  2. Click the Items on device tab.
  3. Select your map by selecting the checkbox next to it.
  4. Click Copy to computer.
  5. Once it has finished, click Done.
  6. Click Update my device in TomTom HOME.
  7. Your new map appears in the list of updates.
  8. Click Update and install.
  9. HOME displays a message advising you to remove some content so tick the box next to your map to remove it from your device.

    If you get a server time-out error, it means that the connection between your device and the TomTom HOME servers is not sustainable. more

  10. Once the download has finished, click Done.
  11. Click the blue eject button in the bottom right of TomTom HOME to safely disconnect your device. Disconnect your device from your computer.

Return to original map

The steps here show you how to copy your current map to your computer and install your original map back on your device.

  1. Click Manage my device in the main menu in HOME.
  2. Click the Items on device tab.
  3. Select your map by selecting the checkbox next to it.
  4. Click Copy to computer.
  5. Once the copying has finished, click Done.
  6. Click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras etc.
  7. Click Items on my computer.
  8. Click Maps
  9. You should have both maps listed here. Click Add next to your original map.
  10. Once it has finished, click Done.
  11. Click the blue eject button in the bottom right of TomTom HOME to safely disconnect your device. Disconnect your device from your computer.
