Navigation device not starting or displaying a cross (TomTom HOME)

If your navigation device doesn't start, or reboots or displays a cross after you switch it on, the software on the navigation device is not installed correctly.

Restore the software on your navigation device using TomTom HOME

  1. Make sure that you have TomTom HOME installed on your computer. You can download TomTom HOME here: tomtom.com/home.

  2. Reset your navigation device. [ show me how... ]

  3. Switch off your navigation device.

  4. Connect your navigation device to your computer.

    Tip: Use the USB port at the back of your computer, if available. Do not use a USB hub or a USB port on the keyboard.

  5. Switch on your navigation device and, if your device asks if you want to connect to your computer, tap YES.

  6. Start TomTom HOME then click Manage my device.

  7. Select the Items on device tab.

  8. Click the plus sign for Applications, tick the TomTom Application, click Remove items from device and click OK to confirm.

  9. Click Done.

  10. Click Manage my device.

  11. Select the Remove items from computer tab.

  12. Click the plus sign for Applications, select the TomTom Application, if available, click Remove items from computer and click OK to confirm.

  13. Click Done.

  14. Click Update my device.

  15. Click Update and install then, when the application update process has finished, click Done.

  16. The navigation device will restart automatically. When your device asks if you want to connect to your computer, tap No and disconnect the navigation device from your computer.

    Note: If your navigation device does not restart automatically, click on the eject button in the bottom right of TomTom HOME and then disconnect your navigation device from your computer.

  17. Reset your navigation device. [ show me how... ]

  18. Connect your navigation device to your computer and, if your device asks if you want to connect to your computer, tap YES.

  19. Click Update my device in TomTom HOME to see if another (newer) TomTom Application is offered.

    Important: TomTom HOME may offer more than one application update. Repeat steps 13 to 17 until no more application updates are offered and the Update and install button is greyed out.
