Note: These steps only apply to the TomTom GO Mobile app for Android. If you have a TomTom navigation device, see our FAQ: How do I install my map on an empty memory card?

To download a new map to an SD memory card, you need to make sure that the SD memory card in your Android device has more free space than the internal memory of your Android device.

Once you have an SD memory card with sufficient free space, follow the steps below to reset the default storage location for the TomTom GO Mobile app and download your map to the SD memory card:

  1. Uninstall the TomTom GO Mobile app from your device. For instructions on how to uninstall the app, see the Google FAQ: Remove downloaded apps.
  2. Note: This will also delete the downloaded map.

  3. Reinstall the TomTom GO Mobile app on your device. For instructions on how to reinstall a downloaded app, see the Google FAQ: Reinstall apps.

  4. Ensure that the SD memory card you want the maps to be installed on is in your device.

  5. Start the TomTom GO Mobile app and download a map.

If the installed SD memory card has more free space than the internal memory of your device, the map and all subsequent content will automatically download to the SD memory card.

We plan to improve this functionality in a future release of the app.
