What’s new in the latest software for my Runner or Multi-Sport watch?

Updated: 16/04/2015 06.57 PM

We are committed to continuously improving the performance and overall user experience for TomTom Runner & Multi-Sport GPS watches. Since the introduction, we have released several software updates to add new functionality, improve the user experience, improve performance and fix problems.

We are constantly reviewing the feedback received by TomTom Customer Support, the TomTom Discussions forum and other channels. Where possible we will continue to improve performance and ease of use.

Below is a detailed overview of all the improvements and fixes that we have released so far:

Version 1.8.35 | 16 April 2015

  • We’ve fixed several bugs and made improvements to the performance.

Version 1.8.34 | 31 March 2015

This software update makes the Bluetooth ® Smart connection to your Android and iOS MySports mobile app more reliable.
You can now pair your watch with several Android Lollipop devices to upload your activities.
For compatibility visit the Google Play Store.

  • You must update your MySports mobile app to version 1.3.0 for Android and 1.0.9 for iOS or higher.
  • After this update you need to pair your watch with your smartphone again.

Version 1.8.32 | 26 February 2015

  • We have added language support for Polish.
  • We’ve fixed several bugs and made improvements to the performance.

Version 1.8.25 | 16 October 2014

  • The battery level indication is now more accurate.
  • The remaining time and the remaining distance are now shown again during interval training.
  • We reduced the minimum time in interval training from 30 to 10 seconds.
Note: When you select 5 seconds the watch will change this to 10 seconds to avoid conflicts with alerts.
  • We’ve fixed an issue that could cause the watch to freeze during an activity resulting in a loss of activity data.
  • We’ve fixed an issue with the race result in the watch history.
  • Based on your feedback that the recently introduced Danish, Norwegian and Swedish languages without accents are not helpful, we’ve decided to remove them.

Version 1.8.19 | 25 September 2014

More and improved metrics

  • The two smaller metrics shown at the top of the screen are larger so that they are easier to read.
  • Activities longer than an hour now show time in seconds and minutes.
  • We added the following behaviour: when you scroll through your metrics, one metric will first show the type of metric, for example distance. After two seconds “distance” is replaced by the unit, in this example “km”.

Improvements to pausing and stopping an activity

  • Pausing and stopping an activity is clearer and more intuitive.

Improvements to treadmill running

  • Calibration is no longer needed for treadmill activities shorter than 500 metres.

Improvements to swimming on the Multi-Sport watch

  • Choosing left or right wrist has been removed from the swim settings because it is no longer required.
  • More pool sizes are available, and you can set the pool size in metres or yards regardless of your general unit setting.
  • The swimming pool size default has been changed to 25m/25yards after a factory reset.

Improvements to the history

  • The watch history contains more details such as your race result and time spent in each heart rate zone.

New heart rate functions

  • The watch monitors how your heart rate is recovering when pausing an activity, and gives a score for your heart rate recovery. The faster your heart rate drops after exercise, the fitter you are.

More metrics for Multi-Sport and Multi-Sport Cardio watches with integrated altimeter (serial number starting with HD or HF)

  • Your Multi-Sport watch with integrated altimeter shows CLIMB as cumulative elevation gain.
  • Your Multi-Sport watch with a built-in altimeter shows terrain distance during run, cycle, freestyle or hiking activities in the mountains. Terrain distance includes the climb and descent. This is especially useful when exercising in mountainous areas, where there is a significant difference in horizontal distance travelled and the distance over the sloped ground.

Usability improvements

  • For Training Partner Race, you can complete the race even when your ‘shadow’ has already finished.
  • Additional languages have been added: Czech, Dutch and Portuguese languages.
  • Added support for iOS 8.

Bug fixes
All the following issues have been fixed:

  • Elapsed distance was incorrectly shown instead of lap distance.
  • Swimming count stopped on long swims, for example around 2850m (57 lengths of a 50m pool).
  • Occasionally, the calorie calculation was using default height/weight/gender.
  • The altitude did not display over 9999.
  • Sometimes the crank icon didn't appear although the watch was linked to the cadence sensor.

Version 1.8.5 | 22 July 2014

  • For TomTom Multi-Sport owners, you can select a free-style, GPS enabled activity type for any non-running, cycling or swimming activities, so you keep a clean history/totals for the main activity types.
  • Race against a specific activity using the MySports Race this button.

Version 1.7.25 | 3 June 2014

  • We’ve fixed several bugs and made improvements to the performance.

Version 1.5.4 | December 12th 2013

New functionality

  • Timeouts to help improve battery life
Some users have reported that the battery on the TomTom GPS Sport Watch discharges too quickly. To make a single charge last longer, the following features now have a timeout:
    • The GPS switches off if the GPS location is not fixed within 15 minutes.

You can turn the press and hold function on and off in the settings.

  • Stopwatch
You can now use the stopwatch function on both, the TomTom Runner watch and the TomTom Multi-Sport watch. You can find Stopwatch on the activities screen. Stopwatch supports laps. To use laps move right from the activity screen or touch the area on the screen for the backlight.

  • Several smaller bug fixes and performance improvements have been implemented.

Version 1.4.1 | October 17th 2013

Note: This update clears the history of activities on your watch.

New functionality

  • Training partner Race
    (Run, cycle, treadmill)
Race yourself: Compare your current activity with one of your last ten performances. See in “real-time” where you are compared to that activity so that you can continue to improve, activity after activity.

  • Interval training
    (Run, cycle, swim, treadmill)
You can create your own unique schedule using time or distance, to better your performance or speed. The watch alerts you with beeps and buzzes when you need to switch to the next interval stage.

Interval training is short periods of work followed by rest. The main aim is to improve speed and cardiovascular fitness.

  • Improved cycle mode
We now use the best available data from the Cadence & Speed Sensor and GPS.
If a data source is temporarily lost, for example in a tunnel, we use data from the other sensor if available.
