What is multitasking?
Multitasking lets you run multiple apps at the same time. This means you can continue to get spoken instructions while running another app in the foreground.

The following devices running iOS 4 or higher support multitasking:

  • iPad 1
  • iPad 2
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPod touch 3rd generation
  • iPod touch 4th generation

Multitasking also lets other apps run in the background while you run TomTom App in the foreground.
Note: Apps running in the background may issue pop-ups that will obstruct TomTom App. Clear pop-ups only when it is safe for you to do so.

To close an app in iOS 4 do the following:

  1. Make sure the app is not running in the foreground by clicking the Home button.
  2. Double-click the Home button to bring up a list of all the applications that are running.
  3. Hold the icon of the app you want to close until the icon shows a minus.Illustration
  4. Tap the minus to close the app.

Closing an app in iOS 7
To close an app in iOS 7 do the following:

  1. Make sure the app is not running in the foreground by clicking the Home button.
  2. Double-click the Home button to bring up a list of all the applications that are running.
  3. Press on the TomTom app icon or the thumbnail to select it.

Multitasking and battery life
If you have a route planned and have not reached your destination, the TomTom App may keep calculating a route while running in the background. It will keep finding a GPS signal and giving turn-by-turn instructions and this can drain the battery when your iPhone is not charged.

Note:

  • The TomTom App is not active in the background when no route is planned.
  • The TomTom App is not active in the background when a route is planned and you have reached your destination.

To clear a route in the TomTom App do the following:

  1. In the Main menu, tap Route Options.
This button is only available if a route is planned.
  2. Tap Clear Route.
  3. Tap Yes to confirm.

To disable multitasking for the TomTom App, do the following:

  1. In the Main menu, tap Change Settings.
  2. Tap Advanced.
  3. Switch off Multitasking.
