Can I receive phone calls while navigating with my iPhone?

The way that incoming calls are handled while navigating depends on the type of iPhone you use.

iPhones supporting multitasking

(iPhone 3GS with iOS 4)

When you receive a call the Phone app asks if you want to accept or decline. If you decline the call, the TomTom app continues. When you accept the call:

  • The iPhone app is brought to the foreground.
  • The TomTom app then asks if you want to continue navigating in the background.
  • During the call the TomTom app mutes voice instructions.
  • Once you end the call the TomTom app is brought to the foreground again.

You can manually bring the app to the foreground to see visual route instructions by pressing the Home button and then tapping the TomTom app.

Other iPhones

When you receive a call the Phone app asks if you want to accept or decline. If you decline the call, the TomTom app continues. When you accept the call:

  • The TomTom app closes.
  • When you end the call, the TomTom app reopens and continues navigating your route.

You can also manually start the TomTom app immediately after accepting the call by pressing the Home button and then tapping the TomTom app.
